The Chilean shipping company EIL is negotiating a regular maritime route between Punta Arenas and the Malvina Islands.

It has the support of the Chilean-British Chamber of Commerce. It aims to supply the colony once or twice a month with less-than-truckload (LTL) cargo and containers during the oil boom in the Malvina Islands.

The MN DANSTAR; the Chilean shipping company's vessel that is expected to carry out logistical supply to the British colony of the Malvina Islands.

The complex web of trade and logistics between Chile and the British occupation administration of the Malvina Islands has taken a new, highly geopolitical turn. Following recent efforts by the Malvina Islands Development Corporation (FIDC) in Chilean territory, new information published byMercoPress —based on reports from the island's weekly newspaper,Penguin News —confirms that the Chilean company Empresa de Navegación Isla de Pascua (EIL) is in advanced negotiations to establish a regular maritime transport service from Punta Arenas to the occupied archipelago.

A commercial sea bridge tailored to the occupancy

A delegation from the shipping company EIL—comprised of its director Víctor González, general manager Pablo Pacheco, and sales agent Luis Cisternas —remained in the Malvina Islands holding strategic meetings with local stakeholders and FIDC executives. According to the executives themselves, the proposal envisions starting with monthly sailings between the Magallanes port of Punta Arenas and the Malvinas, using vessels dedicated exclusively to this route, with crossing times of just two and a half days and the possibility of expanding the service to two trips per month depending on demand.

The project, technically supported by the Chilean-British Chamber of Commerce , aims to supply the colony with breakbulk cargo and smaller containers (10 and 20 feet), adapting to the island's operational needs. Sam Cockwell, strategic projects manager at the FIDC , described the discussions as "universally positive" and emphasized that the Chilean route will provide greater "resilience" to the colonial economy. This logistical development is significant: it coincides with the infrastructure preparation phase for future oil exploration at theSea Lion field and the construction of the new port on the islands.

The military aspect: Logistical support for the British deployment

This strengthening of ties in the civilian and industrial sectors is not an isolated event. It is part of a close cooperation in defense and military logistics between Santiago and London. Recently, the British Royal Navy's offshore patrol vessel, HMS Medway (P223)—which carries out permanent operational duties in the South Atlantic—sailed to the port of Punta Arenas to perform resupply, maintenance, and logistical tasks in Chilean territory.

The presence of British warships in ports in the Magallanes Region constitutes direct logistical support for the United Kingdom's military projection in the South Atlantic and Antarctica. Far from being a routine stopover, these operations confirm Chile as a key support hub for the British colonial presence, facilitating both the supply of occupying troops and the consolidation of the armed enclave at Mount Pleasant.

Diplomatic contradiction and injury to Argentine sovereignty

The gradual establishment of commercial maritime routes, the weekly air connection of the LATAM airline and the port support toRoyal Navy warships form a dual-use (civil and military) logistical cooperation structure from Chilean Patagonia to the Malvina Islands.

This pragmatic regional integration, driven by business and political sectors in southern Chile, stands in stark contrast to the diplomatic doctrine that Chile formally upholds in the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24), where it supports Argentina's position and calls for bilateral dialogue between Argentina and the United Kingdom. In reality, the provision of infrastructure, ports, and ships by Chilean actors strengthens the economic and military viability of the occupation, undermining the South American consensus of solidarity regarding the Malvinas cause.
