For Prime Minister Keir Starmer, keeping the Malvinas under British control is a “personal matter”

He also said that he would promote commercial development and self-determination of the colony, and that he would discuss other matters with Argentina, but not the sovereignty of the Islands.

The Malvina Islands “are and will remain British. It is a personal thing,” said Keir Starmer.

In a forceful statement to the House of Commons last week, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the Malvinas “are and will remain British. It’s a personal thing.” Essentially, he believes that the sovereignty of the Malvinas and Gibraltar is non-negotiable, and that he will do everything he can “to make it easier for all businesses to trade more freely” during his time in office.

Starmer 's remarks come after much speculation about the future of the British Overseas Territories, particularly following the decision to hand over sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago to the Republic of Mauritius.

This recent decision has provoked harsh criticism from the Conservatives, as well as raising concerns about the future of the UK's other overseas territories. However, Starmer believes that certain further issues will be discussed during the Labour government, although the sovereignty of the Malvinas is not at stake.

At the same House of Lords meeting, Jenny Chapman, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Latin America and the Caribbean , stated that “the unequivocal and enduring clarity of this Government is that the future of the Malvina Islands and Gibraltar is directly, wholly and possibly in the hands of the Malvina Islanders and Gibraltarians.”

The statements of the British Prime Minister also come after the Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom David Lammy agreed on September 24, 2011, a new diplomatic agreement with similar characteristics to that reached during the government of Mauricio Macri , known as the Foradori-Duncan Agreement ; in which the administration of President Javier Milei grants the usurpers of Malvinas the resumption of the weekly flight from San Pablo (Brazil) to the islands and the reestablishment of the scientific fishing exchange of the Menem era, through which the British colony acquired certified information on the quantity and quality of the fishing resource, to give value to the licenses it sells annually, of what it steals from the South American country in the waters of the South Atlantic.
