The Federal Fisheries Council denied compensation to companies for illegal fishing in the Tai An

The three fishing companies that operate in the area requested that the 2023 reserves be awarded to them as a form of compensation for the illegal capture of the Tai An vessel, but the federal agency rejected the proposal.

The head of the Prodesur company and owner of the Tai An vessel, Liu Zhinjang, must appear at a hearing on June 26.

The Federal Fisheries Council was the scene of a new chapter in the plot that originated with the illegal fishing of 175 tons of toothfish by the Tai An vessel . The companies that have fishing authorizations expressed themselves affected and requested the expansion of quotas due to last year's reservation, as a form of compensation.

However, the agency rejected the request for this "benefit" for the offender's competitors and set a hearing for June 26 with the head of the Prodesur company, Liu Zhinjang , owner of the Tai An fishing vessel.

The companies Argenova, Pesantar and Estremar raised the damage generated by the illegal capture of the Tai An vessel , 175 tons of toothfish that the companies maintain will be deducted from the Administration Reserve with which they should have to expand their capture in case of exhausting their share.

Furthermore, the representatives of the companies on the Council indicated that “ the capture of the species would not have been bycatch or incidental, but directed, and that although the State would be compensated by the payment of the fine and confiscation of the merchandise, the companies will be 'unfairly harmed by the reduction of the species' Management Reserve'.

However, the request of the three companies that are considered harmed was denied by the federal agency . During the meeting, the data for the 2023 squid season and the most recent for 2024 were also known.
