The Government will audit the Foreign Ministry

It is to find out who supports and who disagrees with the management of Foreign Relations. They will expel all those who "promote agendas that are hostile to freedom."

The audit will assess the career and performance of Foreign Ministry officials.

Following the departure of Diana Mondino, the most recent loss in Javier Milei's cabinet, they will look for "promoters of agendas that are enemies of freedom" to throw them out. This is what Minutouno.com states, La Gaceta and other media outlets , in notes published during the early hours of this morning.

All indications are that Javier Milei's government will soon begin an audit of the Foreign Ministry staff to detect people "promoting agendas that are hostile to freedom" with the aim of firing them. Just as happened in the last few hours with Diana Mondino , who was removed from that portfolio by the Argentine vote in the United Nations in favor of the United States lifting the embargo on Cuba.

After appointing businessman and former Argentine ambassador to Washington Gerardo Werthein as Foreign Minister, the Government turned its attention to the career staff of the Foreign Ministry, who were already in the San Martín Palace before the arrival of Diana Mondino on December 10, 2023.

Audit objectives

The Government's decision to carry out this audit has raised expectations about the possible results and consequences. It is hoped that the measure will help strengthen the institutionality and transparency of the Foreign Ministry, as well as improve the effectiveness of Argentina's foreign policy.

The audit will be an exhaustive process that will evaluate the career and performance of the Foreign Ministry officials. Their backgrounds, their commitment to the country's objectives and their ability to represent Argentine interests on the international stage will be analyzed. This will allow the Government to make informed decisions about the future of foreign policy and the composition of the diplomatic team.

The President's Office issued a statement on Wednesday in which Gerardo Werthein was introduced as Diana Mondino's replacement and added the explanation that "Argentina is going through a period of profound changes, and this new stage demands that our diplomatic corps reflect in each decision the values of freedom, sovereignty and individual rights that characterize Western democracies."

"In this regard, our country is categorically opposed to the Cuban dictatorship and will remain firm in promoting a foreign policy that condemns all regimes that perpetuate the violation of human rights and individual freedoms," the President's Office added.

Other missteps by Diana Mondino at the head of the Foreign Ministry centered on the issue of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. Just a few days ago, the Foreign Ministry published a statement on its website in which they were mentioned as "Malvinas", a name used in the United Kingdom and rejected by Argentina because it contradicts its diplomatic claim.

Following the repercussions and criticism, the Foreign Ministry removed the link from the website without issuing a new statement on the matter, while the now ex-official tried to shift the blame away from her portfolio.

"The Argentine Republic will defend the aforementioned principles in all international forums in which it participates, and the Executive Branch will initiate an audit of the career staff of the Foreign Ministry with the aim of identifying those who promote agendas that are hostile to freedom," they said from the Casa Rosada.
