The former Malvinas combatant and political scientist, Ramón Garcés , strongly questioned the measures of the national government regarding the Malvinas cause. He maintained that there is a setback in international diplomacy and that Javier Milei is not interested in defending the sovereignty of the South Atlantic archipelago.
“It is very sad to know that the Government we have is not interested in the Malvinas and all its resources, all its riches, and at the same time it is very crazy to know that the Malvinas issue is talked about in schools,” said Garcés, referring to the national consciousness that the Malvinas were, are and will be Argentine.
The speaker is not only a professional in Political Science , he also shot down an English plane when he was just nineteen years old , during the Malvinas War in May 1982.
"It is incredible to think that the president has Margaret Thatcher as an idol, who says that the Malvinas are British, that people from his political space say that Patagonia does not belong to us either," said the veteran.
Before arriving in the Malvinas Islands, Garcés had only received basic weapons training but he had to take charge of an anti-aircraft battery, shot down a Harrier plane and survived the battle of Pradera de Ganso (Goose Green), the bloodiest in the world. war conflict.
"It is difficult to understand how someone with that type of speech is voted for by war veterans, but it is true, the vast majority of war veterans and the family of the military caste have voted for him," remarked the former soldier, in a reflection about the current management, during an interview on REALPOLITIK.FM.
Upon returning to the country from Uruguay, after having been taken prisoner by British pirates, Garcés married the young woman who wrote him letters of encouragement from the continent during the days of the war. He later wrote a book , participated in a film and was the inspiration for a strategy video game .
In his evaluation of the presidential administration, he highlights that ground has been lost in terms of international diplomacy : “Before we had so many countries that supported us with the claim that we have in the United Nations, more than 170 countries that have supported us in international forums, "Now it seems like they don't know us."
Likewise, he emphasized that the Milei Government does not defend the Argentine sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands , the South Atlantic islands and the natural resources that legitimately belong to us.
“ Suddenly we have a Government that does not want them, it is very contradictory, it is very difficult to understand it, not only for us, for the vast majority,” Garcés considered; But we have to work to reverse that and the way to work is to campaign for the Malvinas cause in all areas, not just educational, in sports and on the street mainly, demanding what belongs to us, not only that they recognize us as such. , but please say sometime that Malvinas is Argentina, mainly.”
