The 'Alférez Sobral' notice and the 'Guerrico' corvette faced the colonialist forces and received decorations.

The Argentine Navy will auction four vessels , including the emblematic “ Alférez Sobral ” and the “ Guerrico ” corvette, units that served during the Malvinas War . These ships, currently inactive , are moored at the Mar del Plata Naval Base and are in considerable structural and equipment deterioration . In addition, the former hydrographic vessel ARA “ Comodoro Rivadavia ” and the former A-69 class corvette ARA “ Drummond ” will be auctioned.

The “ Alférez Sobral ”, which was conceived in 1944 as an auxiliary tug for the United States Navy , joined the Argentine fleet in 1972. Its participation in the Malvinas conflict was relevant: on 1 May 1982, during a search and rescue mission, it was attacked by missiles launched from British helicopters , suffering damage that caused the death of several crew members , including its captain. Despite the damage, the ship managed to return to the mainland .

The corvette " Guerrico " was part of Task Group 60.1, where it supported Marine troops in combat. This unit received the " Honor for Valor in Combat " decoration, having been involved in an exchange of fire and suffering damage to its missile system.

Although there were plans to preserve the ' Alférez Sobral ' as a museum ship , they ultimately fell through , and it is now among the units declared for sale after years of inactivity .

In this context, the auction follows the recent decommissioning of other Navy ships , such as the “ Hercules ” and the “ Heroína ”.
